Firewood Storage Tips

Firewood Storage Tips

Proper storage keeps your seasoned almond firewood dry, ready to burn, and free from pests. Follow these simple guidelines to get the most out of every delivery.

Choose the Right Location

Store firewood in a dry, well-ventilated area away from your home's exterior walls. Keeping wood at least a few feet from the house reduces the risk of pests finding their way indoors. A covered side yard, garage, or dedicated firewood shed works well.

Elevate Off the Ground

Always stack firewood off the ground using a firewood rack, pallets, or treated lumber. Direct ground contact traps moisture and accelerates decay. Even a few inches of elevation makes a significant difference.

Stack for Airflow

Stack wood loosely enough to allow air to circulate between the pieces. Good airflow helps maintain dryness and prevents mold. Avoid stacking wood too tightly or against a solid wall with no ventilation.

Cover the Top, Not the Sides

Cover only the top of your woodpile to protect it from rain, while leaving the sides open for airflow. Wrapping the entire pile in a tarp traps moisture and can cause the wood to sweat and degrade.

Use It in Order

Burn older wood first and stack new deliveries behind or beneath existing stock. This ensures you're always burning the driest wood available.
